Yurts Divergence through Yurt Makers
The array of yurt makers expands as variety of yurts are designed and constructed. From the traditional yurts used by nomads of Central Asia particularly in Mongolia, makers continue to develop it into various versions. Today, interested individuals have a wider selection of the yurt of their choice.
The basic yurt is composed of a circular wooden frame covered with felt made from sheep wool. The frame is basically made up of lattice sections or “khana”, roof poles or “uni”, door-frame, and a crown or “toono”. Most yurts are self-supporting however some styles use columns or “bagana” to shore up the crown. Today, aside from being a dwelling area, yurts are made to be a venue for social gatherings, a camping tent, a studio, a commercial area, an office space and a lot more.
Assortments are applied depending on geographical location and conditions. For instance, in United States and Canada yurts are engineered for extreme weather conditions through the use of hi-tech materials. However, their version failed to meet a yurt’s property of mobility. Makers in Europe present yurts that are almost similar to that of the Mongolian’s. The form is almost the same except for its steeper roof and the lack of felt cover found in traditional yurts.
Mobile and permanent yurts emerge from the makers’ divergence. For people who do not really need yurts in a permanent basis, they can go with yurt hire. There are yurt makers who build movable yurts that are intended for hiring. When the purpose is just for simple activities such as camping, it is better to just hire yurts that are mobile and easy set up.
Yurts are part of Central Asia’s vibrant and unique architecture. Yurts continue to evolve into more intricate structures that offer wider purposes. Of course, the development is not without the diversified cluster of yurt makers.
